Both Houses of Parliament saw disruptions today and adjourned early.
In Rajya Sabha, a Member submitted a notice to move a motion to terminate the suspension of the 12 Members of the House. The 12 Members were suspended on 29th November for violating the rules of the House on the last day of the Monsoon Session. The Deputy Chair informed the House that the notice was not admitted because it was not accompanied by a motion.
The House adjourned shortly after and resumed in the second half for a discussion on the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Speaking on the debate, one Member said that political parties and leaders should lead by example and keep social gatherings and rallies to a minimum. The Member further added that the first and the second dose must be administered immediately. Members also emphasized strict adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour.
In Lok Sabha, no business was taken up in the second half. Earlier, the Question Hour was taken up amid disruptions. The Speaker urged the Members to make it a convention to not disrupt the Question Hour, irrespective of their differences. Lok Sabha functioned for a total of about 40 minutes today.
