Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha took up a special discussion to commemorate 75 years of the Quit India Movement. The Prime Minister, speaking in Lok Sabha, stated that the same spirit that existed from 1942 to 1947 must be recreated for the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, from 2017 to 2022. He called on the members to work together to solve the challenges of poverty, lack of education and malnutrition.
Members participating in the debate in both houses touched upon a number of issues as well. Bringing economic parity, tackling unemployment, maintaining religious harmony, fighting corruption were some of the common themes that members discussed.
Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after the conclusion of the special discussion due to the passing away of a sitting member, Mr. Sanwar Lal Jat.
Rajya Sabha was unable to take up scheduled business due to disruptions.
