Parliament met for the first sitting of the Monsoon Session today. The session is scheduled to run until 13th August, 2015 and will consist of 18 sittings.
Lok Sabha adjourned after obituary notices were read. The Delhi High Court (Amendment) Bill had been listed for passing in the lower house. The house will take up the day’s scheduled business tomorrow.
Rajya Sabha saw repeated disruptions throughout the day. Opposition parties raised demands seeking the resignation of the Minister of External Affairs in relation to the allegations made against her regarding Lalit Modi’s travel documents. In this context, the Leader of the House agreed to discuss the issue and informed members that the concerned Minister has also agreed to make a clarificatory statement.
The Appropriation Acts (Repeal) Bill, 2015 was listed in the upper house’s business for today. Since the house was unable to function, it remains to be seen if the legislation will be taken up tomorrow. Additionally, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill has been included in the agenda for tomorrow. You can read a detailed analysis on the bill here.
Details of legislation expected to be taken up during the session can be found in our Session Alert document. Please note, the document has been prepared on the basis of Bulletin II of Lok Sabha dated July 20, 2015. It will further be updated when Rajya Sabha releases its Bulletin.
