Lok Sabha
today took up the Demands for Grants of the Ministry of Health and
Family Welfare today. Twenty two members spoke on the issue raising
their concerns about reduction in budget allocations to the Ministry
among other things. The Minister, Mr. Nadda in his reply pointed out
that Rs. 1,78,000 crores was devolved to the states as per the 14th Finance
Commission’s recommendation. The Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s
assistance to states on the issue of health, which is a state subject.
The Minister stated that the Ministry was currently consulting experts
from the health sector and Medical Council of India to increase the
number of doctors. The Ministry is also working towards improving its
immunization programmed by 5-6% per year.
The
demands for grants of six ministries have been discussed by the lower
house, while all other were passed without discussion i.e. guillotined
at the end of the day.
