Here are the highlights of what happened in Parliament today:
In Lok Sabha, the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda Bill, 2020 was passed. The Bill seeks to merge three Ayurveda institutes into one. The new institution will be called the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda and will be designated as an institution of National Importance. The Institute is mandated to conduct an in-depth study and research in the field of Ayurveda, and bring together educational facilities for training of personnel in all branches of Ayurveda, among others.
Several Members welcomed the Bill and highlighted the need to further promote Ayurveda. A Member pointed out that the proposed Institute should have more number of technical experts. Other Members highlighted the need to have more such institutes in different states.
Rajya Sabha continued its discussion on the Working of the Ministry of MSME. Replying to the discussion, the MSME Minister noted that the sector contributes 29% of the GDP growth, 33% of manufacturing and has created about 11 crore jobs. He then reiterated in the House that the Ministry is working on updating the definition of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The MSME Development Act, 2006 groups these enterprises based on investment in plant and machinery and equipment.
The Upper House then took up discussion on the Working of the Ministry of Law and Justice.
