The first Question Hour of the 17th Lok Sabha took place today. Members posed questions, to which, Ministers replied in the House.
The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 was introduced in Lok Sabha today to replace an Ordinance in force. The Ordinance promulgated on February 21, 2019, makes declaration of triple talaq void and punishable with imprisonment up to three years.
Certain Members opposed the introduction of the Bill on grounds that it violated fundamental rights, and that the matter was not under the purview of Parliament. Subsequently, some Members called for a division (recorded voting). The results were, Ayes: 186, and Noes: 74. The Bill was then introduced.
The Homeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was also introduced to replace an Ordinance currently in force. The Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019 was promulgated on March 2, 2019. It amends the Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973 which sets up the Central Council of Homoeopathy. It supercedes the Central Council for another year. The Central Council regulates homoeopathic education and practice.
