The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill, 2019 was passed in Lok Sabha. The Bill amends the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 which provides special procedures to deal with terrorist activities, among other things. One of the amendments being brought about by this Bill is that the government may designate individuals as terrorists if:
(i) commits or participates in acts of terrorism
(ii) prepares for terrorism
(iii) promotes terrorism
(iv) is otherwise involved in terrorism.
While voting on the passage of the Bill, a division i.e. recorded voting was called. After many years, the division was taken by asking members to stand in the House to count their strength either in favour or against an amendment moved to a clause in the Bill.
The Banning of Unregulated Schemes Bill, 2019 was passed in Lok Sabha.
In Rajya Sabha today, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was introduced.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Amendment Bill, 2019 was passed in Rajya Sabha. The Bill amends the POCSO Act, 2012 by adding to the definition of aggravated penetrative sexual assault, increasing punishment for penetrative sexual assault, and defines and enhances punishment for offences for using children for pornographic purposes.
