Profile of the 16th Karnataka Legislative Assembly
The results of the elections to the 16th Karnataka Legislative Assembly were declared on May 13, 2023. There are 224 elected assembly seats and one nominated seat in the state. In this note, we analyse the profile of the incoming Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and compare it with the previous Assembly. |

In every election since 1962, less than 5% of those elected to the Karnataka Assembly have been women. In 2023, 10 women have been elected to the Assembly, which is the same as the Ninth Assembly in 1989. The last time more than 10 women were elected to the Assembly was in 1962. Note that this analysis does not account for any changes in the Assembly due to bye-elections. |
