The Madhya Pradesh Landless Persons of Urban Areas (Grant of Leasehold Rights) Amendment Bill, 2023

  • The Madhya Pradesh Landless Persons of Urban Areas (Grant of Leasehold Rights) Amendment Bill, 2023 was introduced in the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on March 13, 2023.  The Bill amends the Madhya Pradesh Landless Persons of Urban Areas (Grant of Leasehold Rights) Act, 1984.  The Act provides for the allocation of leasehold rights (for residential purposes) to landless persons in urban areas.

  • Settlement of land: Under the Act, the land occupied by a landless person in any urban area on December 31, 2014 shall be deemed to have been settled in his favour as on that date.  The Authorised Officer (Sub-Divisional Officer or any other Assistant Collector or Deputy Collector in the district as the Collector may authorise) may: (i) settle the land in occupation of the landless person, or (ii) allot them any other land exceeding 50 square metres in lease hold rights.  This is subject to the person furnishing proof of residence in the urban area before December 31, 2014 through: (i) a ration card, or (ii) testimony in writing from the Mohalla Committee certifying he has resided in the area before December 31, 2014.  The Bill extends the cut-off date from December 31, 2014 to December 31, 2020.
