The Kerala Jewellery Workers’ Welfare Fund (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020
- The Kerala Jewellery Workers’ Welfare Fund (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 was promulgated on May 18, 2020. It amends the Kerala Jewellery Workers’ Welfare Fund Act, 2009. The Act sets up a Fund to: (i) grant relief to, (ii) promote welfare of, and (iii) pay pension to workers and employed persons in jewellery and connected works. This includes persons engaged in the processing of various precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, copper, gems, pearls, and the manufacturing of jewellery, figures, or other products by using such metals or their alloy products. The Ordinance amends the amount of monthly contribution to the Fund made by the workers.
- Contribution to the Fund: The Act provides for a contribution of 20 rupees per month to the Fund by every worker and self-employed person. The state government shall annually contribute an amount equal to five percent of the amount paid by the workers and self-employed persons. The Ordinance enhances the contribution of workers and self-employed persons to 50 rupees every month.
