  • The Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021 was promulgated on February 9, 2021.  It repeals the Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020, which expired on February 11, 2021.  The 2021 Ordinance extends the provisions of the 2020 Ordinance.
  • The 2021 Ordinance amends the Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board Act, 2015.  The Act sets up an autonomous Devaswom Recruitment Board (DRB), to unify and supervise selection procedure for appointments to various posts in Devaswom Boards across the state.  Devaswom Boards are entities that manage majority of Hindu shrines and aided institutions under them.  The 2021 Ordinance amends the terms of office of the Chairperson and members of the DRB.

  • Term of Office of the Chairperson:  The Act provides for a five-member DRB, to be led by a Chairperson.  All members, including the Chairperson, will serve in office for five years or till they attain 65 years of age, whichever is earlier.  Under the Act, a person appointed as Chairperson or member is not eligible for re-appointment.  The Ordinance amends this to allow the Chairperson and members to be re-appointed one time.
